Abstract-geometric Rock Art

Abstract-geometric rock art is made of designs rather than of pictures of people or animals. Common to see are rakes, grids, zigzags, dots, circles and wavy lines. This is some of the oldest art in the West and may predate and overlap the Barrier Canyon Style. Because they are of different colors, they are considered Polychromatic as well.

Painted abstract-geometric designs: rakes, grids, plant-like forms and rows of lines

These forms are up about twenty feet / six meters on the ceiling of a rock shelter that also has a lot of Fremont art.

Painted rows of dots and lines on a rock shelter ceiling, with modern names

These are also high up in a rock shelter, but people still put their names on them. Close by is a Barrier Canyon Style painting.
